Multiform Stone Industries take great pride in creating beautiful stone bench tops.

We wish to ensure our clients are satisfied with their stone for years to come. Like many luxury products and particularly those that are natural, this will require some simple care and maintenance. The information in this guide will help you to understand what to expect and how to care for your stone bench top.

Staining and Scratching

As a natural product, different stones have different natural characteristics, both in look and physical properties. All natural stones have some degree of porosity, meaning they can be absorbent of liquids which can lead to stains. Some stones are more porous than others, dependent on their natural density

All stone surfaces require maintenance to keep them looking like new. For everyday, routine cleaning we recommend wiping the surface with warm soapy water (using a mild dishwashing detergent such as Morning Fresh) and a clean damp cloth, then drying off with a clean microfibre cloth. Do not use a cloth that you use to wash the dishes, as it may transfer oils and other contaminants to the surface. The best preventative measure to avoid staining is to correctly seal your stone. Multiform will seal your stone upon completing installation. It is important to note that sealing your stone does not stop it from staining; it simply buys you a window of opportunity to clean the spill before staining occurs. This timeframe will differ depending on your material, so be aware that it can take anywhere from 1-2 minutes for some liquids to penetrate stone.

By following these simple steps, you can avoid damaging or staining your new surface.

  • Thoroughly wipe up all spills immediately

  • Do not chop directly on the stone – always use a chopping board to avoid scratching the surface

  • Be vigilant about avoiding lemon juice, wine, vinegar and anything acidic contacting your stone.

  • Keep cosmetics and fragrances away from the stone surface

  • Always place something heat resistant like chopping boards or trivets under hot pots and pans

Stone Cleaning Guide

Do not use a cloth that you use to wash the dishes, as it may transfer oils and other contaminants to the surface.

To give your surface a thorough clean or for removal of extra stubborn marks or spills, we recommend using a cream cleanser such as Bar Keepers Friend and a 3M Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch Foam Scrub with light pressure. We suggest using this cleaning process regularly depending on the amount of traffic, use and surface application. Avoid prolonged rubbing in one spot when cleaning. Do not use products such a Jif as they are abrasive to the stone surface.

Bar Keepers friend can be purchased at Bunnings Warehouse

Food Preparation

We always recommend cutting on an appropriate cutting board and never directly on your stone surface to avoid blunting kitchen knives or damaging the surface of your bench top.

Heat Resistance

Stone can be damaged by sudden and rapid surface temperature changes. We always recommend placing hot pots, oven trays and frypans directly from the oven or hot plate onto a wooden chopping board or trivet. We also recommend that all electrical cooking appliances such as electric frying pans and slow cookers are also placed on a wooden chopping board.
